Gender: Societal Views on Women

Society's views on women have been very harsh for the longest period of time and unfortunately the stereotypical expectations to women applies up to this day. Women now are still expected to be stay at home moms and take care of their children, do homework with them and raise them. They are also expected to be good house wives and do everything to satisfy their husbands, constantly clean and cook for the family to be well fed and happy. From the very beginning of their lives girls are taught to be loving, caring, tender, nice, sweet, etc. Of course, they are bought little dolls to play with and toy kitchen sets, by doing so the parents are already teaching the young girls this stereotype and showing them that this is right and that this is something they absolutely have to be doing. They're taught that there's no other way, a girl shouldn't want to play with cars or be interested in sports, they should wear cute pink dresses and always look presentable when out in publi...

Education Progressing

In my opinion education has changed and definitely improved for the better over the years. Even though the educational board has kept the school system pretty much the same there have been major improvements in the educational program itself. The students used to be taught in small classrooms with teachers who would come to their classrooms and teach them a subject regardless if they needed to learn about it or not . There really wasn't much of a choice when it came to these matters and the students weren't able to choose the classes they wanted, but instead they had to be taught all of the mandatory classes to "succeed" in life. Over the years that has changed and now the students are able to choose the classes they're passionate about and actually want to learn more about, yes there are still required classes, but there is also a lot of freedom for the children with their education and their will to participate and want to take the classes. The schools have defi...

The Idealistic School

Schools is a place where a kid should feel safe and comfortable in, it should be a welcoming environment for everyone and a stress-free "zone". Instead schools, at least nowadays, have been a major factor of stress and anxiety for many students to the extent that many of them dread coming to school solely based on that purpose, in an idealistic school I believe that there should be a less strict approach to students and more of a comfortable and warming setting. The food in schools also should have a little more flavor added to them due to the very stale and bad taste that causes many to even throw away their lunch and are left hungry for the rest of the day. The grades shouldn't be the only factor that affects a students so called "knowledge". There needs to be more of a variety of what classes a student can take and there shouldn't be a set requirement due to different interest people have. There should be a better curriculum in meaning that a students isn...

Huckleberry Finn and the effect of racial slurs

Reading "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" could be hard for some people based on the way that they interpret certain things and their point of view on the story. Some people often get offended reading that book and want to report it for "inappropriate" language and context. Many tend to confuse those terms with offensive language rather than realizing that the book is written in a realism style, which is a form of a very realistic and blunt writing exactly portraying the circumstance of life when the book was written. A lot of people tend to "attack" Twain and accuse him of offending African Americans back then by using the terms "slave" and "nigger", Twain, however; had no intentions of offending any race, he simply wanted to write a story about how the people were treated back then, even if that meant including strong language and content that could be uncomfortable for most people. Realism can be a very tricky writing style for th...

The Crucible

The book so far gets into many details and as you keep reading, each act gets more in depth and really begins to define what mess the false accusations that Abigail is making is causing the town. She is insanely in love with a married man, John Proctor, whom she had an affair with a while ago and wants him to be with her, while he wants to move on and forget all about it. Elizabeth Proctor, John's wife, dismissed Abigail who worked for them after she found out about the incident. Furious at his wife Abigail starts up an entire mess of witchcraft accusations and claims that Elizabeth is part of this and needs to be arrested, she comes up with a really clever plan to set her up by making a doll with a needle in the stomach in the courthouse then sending Mary down to bring it to Elizabeth as a "gift". When the officers arrive at the Proctor's household to arrest Elizabeth she has no idea what she did wrong and they ask to take a look around her house for any dolls, Eliza...

What is Satire?

Image
There are many types of writing styles that people use like rhetorical, synthesis, argument, etc. Satire is one of them, but there's a little bit of a twist to it. Satire has its unique sense if style, when writing in satire the writer’s goal is to criticize real problems happening in the world and make it almost humorous and sarcastic. The only problem with this writing style is the fact that not everybody might catch onto the fact that the article is not actually serious and might get offended. Satire doesn’t necessarily have to be written, videos are also made in representation of a real cause/ problem in the world then turned into a humorous and not serious discussion. This can be an effective method due to the fact that criticism is approached through humor, which can make matters better for people who either didn’t catch on or are approaching the topic very seriously. Yet, satire isn’t entirely humor there are two sides/styles of it: Horatian and Juvenalian. The Horatian sty...

The Great Gatsby and The American Dream

The American Dream and the book "The Great Gatsby" have many similarities between them like for example the perfect life that everyone strives for and wants, the idea that you have to be rich to be happy and start your own family. Daisy and Tom Buchanan had it all, they had their own family and were insanely rich with a really nice house so one would consider that they are living to their fullest and are completely fitting into the American Dream. This however isn't true from the side it may seem so yet they were a very unfortunate family due to the lack of love between each other, Tom was cheating on Daisy, Pammy was shy of her mother because she barely ever spends time with her, and Daisy learned how to cope with being alone and emotionless, that is not what people want to happen with their lives. Gatsby had hopes that he will one day achieve the American Dream with Daisy, he already had the money he had a beautiful home all he needed was love. He really wanted to just ...
