The Crucible
The book so far gets into many details and as you keep reading, each act gets more in depth and really begins to define what mess the false accusations that Abigail is making is causing the town. She is insanely in love with a married man, John Proctor, whom she had an affair with a while ago and wants him to be with her, while he wants to move on and forget all about it. Elizabeth Proctor, John's wife, dismissed Abigail who worked for them after she found out about the incident. Furious at his wife Abigail starts up an entire mess of witchcraft accusations and claims that Elizabeth is part of this and needs to be arrested, she comes up with a really clever plan to set her up by making a doll with a needle in the stomach in the courthouse then sending Mary down to bring it to Elizabeth as a "gift". When the officers arrive at the Proctor's household to arrest Elizabeth she has no idea what she did wrong and they ask to take a look around her house for any dolls, Elizabeth denies having any, but then the officers found the supposed "voodoo" doll and bring her into the courthouse. John demands an explanation as to why she is being arrested, the officers then inform him that Abigail mysteriously started bleeding from her stomach which is also where the needle was inserted in the doll. Abigail accused yet another innocent person of witchcraft just to get what she wanted, John all to herself. For this reason alone she begins this mass hysteria of false accusations and will not stop until nobody is in her way of reaching her goal. John and the others know that she is insane for starting this mess up, but so far the jury is on her side.
