The Crucible

The book so far gets into many details and as you keep reading, each act gets more in depth and really begins to define what mess the false accusations that Abigail is making is causing the town. She is insanely in love with a married man, John Proctor, whom she had an affair with a while ago and wants him to be with her, while he wants to move on and forget all about it. Elizabeth Proctor, John's wife, dismissed Abigail who worked for them after she found out about the incident. Furious at his wife Abigail starts up an entire mess of witchcraft accusations and claims that Elizabeth is part of this and needs to be arrested, she comes up with a really clever plan to set her up by making a doll with a needle in the stomach in the courthouse then sending Mary down to bring it to Elizabeth as a "gift". When the officers arrive at the Proctor's household to arrest Elizabeth she has no idea what she did wrong and they ask to take a look around her house for any dolls, Eliza...

What is Satire?

Image
There are many types of writing styles that people use like rhetorical, synthesis, argument, etc. Satire is one of them, but there's a little bit of a twist to it. Satire has its unique sense if style, when writing in satire the writer’s goal is to criticize real problems happening in the world and make it almost humorous and sarcastic. The only problem with this writing style is the fact that not everybody might catch onto the fact that the article is not actually serious and might get offended. Satire doesn’t necessarily have to be written, videos are also made in representation of a real cause/ problem in the world then turned into a humorous and not serious discussion. This can be an effective method due to the fact that criticism is approached through humor, which can make matters better for people who either didn’t catch on or are approaching the topic very seriously. Yet, satire isn’t entirely humor there are two sides/styles of it: Horatian and Juvenalian. The Horatian sty...

The Great Gatsby and The American Dream

The American Dream and the book "The Great Gatsby" have many similarities between them like for example the perfect life that everyone strives for and wants, the idea that you have to be rich to be happy and start your own family. Daisy and Tom Buchanan had it all, they had their own family and were insanely rich with a really nice house so one would consider that they are living to their fullest and are completely fitting into the American Dream. This however isn't true from the side it may seem so yet they were a very unfortunate family due to the lack of love between each other, Tom was cheating on Daisy, Pammy was shy of her mother because she barely ever spends time with her, and Daisy learned how to cope with being alone and emotionless, that is not what people want to happen with their lives. Gatsby had hopes that he will one day achieve the American Dream with Daisy, he already had the money he had a beautiful home all he needed was love. He really wanted to just ...
The American Dream Is the American Dream something that still "exists" today? Is it a real goal or was it someones ideal vision of the perfect life in America? In any case the American dream is a different goal that each individual has for their life in America, whether they are an immigrant or not. Many immigrants that come over to America are typically seeking a better life than they had in their previous country. For example, when my parents were coming to America their goal was to have a better life, happiness, a good job that paid well and a nice home. My parents and I came here with only two bags of clothing and we stayed with a family friend until we had enough money to move out and buy our own place. It took a lot of hard work, things didn't just come easy, my parents when given the opportunity did everything they could to achieve their perfect life here. For those who were born here they might have the same mentality. The American Dream has no idealistic def...
Liberty Liberty is a very big and important concept of our country as a whole and a big topic that we discussed in our class for a few weeks. When asked what is liberty, you cannot give a straight definition because it's a very loaded question, the appropriate way would be to ask; what is liberty to you? Nowadays our society has progressively gotten better from that it was many decades and even centuries ago, there's more equality in the world and more availability to state opinions without being discriminated against. Women finally have a voice and are capable of standing up for what's right, having many options to strive for goals, living up to dreams and just being able to do as we please. Inequality was also raised against the African Americans, for centuries they have been discriminated against, made slaves, treated with disrespect, etc. So when the Declaration of Independence was signed into law how did they react? Were they happy? Were they free? Those are the que...
