The American Dream

Is the American Dream something that still "exists" today? Is it a real goal or was it someones ideal vision of the perfect life in America? In any case the American dream is a different goal that each individual has for their life in America, whether they are an immigrant or not. Many immigrants that come over to America are typically seeking a better life than they had in their previous country. For example, when my parents were coming to America their goal was to have a better life, happiness, a good job that paid well and a nice home. My parents and I came here with only two bags of clothing and we stayed with a family friend until we had enough money to move out and buy our own place. It took a lot of hard work, things didn't just come easy, my parents when given the opportunity did everything they could to achieve their perfect life here. For those who were born here they might have the same mentality. The American Dream has no idealistic definition, it's what you want and your dreams and goals. In my opinion, it still exists because everybody wants to be able to live a life they chose and want, and follow their own hopes and dreams.

  1. I like how you said the American dream is not a real goal but rather a vision for a perfect life in America I agree with this and I think its just something that motivates people to work hard so they can one day achieve this "dream" but a lot of people can't. I also agree with your statement that the American dreams does not have a definition, it is often time different for everyone because not everyone values the same thing in life.

  2. I completely agree with the idea that The American Dream is not defined as the "perfect life", but goals and dreams set by an individual, and the ability to do that in America. I really like your example of you and your parents because your family's first-hand experience with the American Dream is important in being able to decide what is truly considered part of the American Dream, and what is not.
